HOMEWORK CLUB

Homework Club is a weekly academic support session for students ranging from senior kindergarten to grade 6. Since the beginning of the school year, in September, Homework Club has been taking place every Saturday at Mitchell Field Community Centre from 4:00 to 5:30 pm. GYL members help with work in various fields including English, French, math, science, and social studies. GYL members not only help with homework but also prepare students for presentations, tests, and other in-class assessments.
Furthermore, a few students bring in contest materials, for various math and science competitions, which members cover as well. With this versatility, GYL members provide an enhanced experience for the participants at Homework Club. As a mandatory activity in GYL, members are required to attend at least three sessions. Since Homework Club has a large number of participants (approximately fifty students), members who are passionate and enjoy teaching are always welcome to come to more sessions (which most often do). At Homework Club, GYL members develop a passion for service, learn valuable leadership and soft skills, and make sincere, long-lasting connections with students. By taking away from these experiences, GYL members can apply their new skill set in their daily lives. Moreover, by giving back to the community in this way, GYL members ignite the inner curiosity in youth and drive their efforts to build a better and brighter future.
